If you are talking about TATA Indicom being costly, then what do you think is cheap? BSNL? Sify? If you have Airtel in your area, that's what I would call cheap and worthy. If you don't have Airtel Broadband around you, then TATA's is the next best thing. You need to check the tariffs of the other ISPs before you comment on something.

Your college's internet is probably shared on the LAN. That's why you seem to get slower speeds. Check it out in the evening or morning when no one's using it. Then you'll know. Most colleges get connections of speeds like 512kbps.

In any case, I don't see how you can judge TATA's Broadband on the basis of that. I have been a customer of VSNL since 1997. Their internet service is truly reliable. I don't know about their people who do the actual physical connections - wiring and installation - for broadband. Maybe that's the reason most people here fret about TATA's Broadband.

Airtel would have been my first choice, but it seems like their expansion process is damn slow. So I got TATA Indicom Broadband 4 days back - 3 months, Unlimited usage, 64kbps, zero freaking rentals, cost= 1587 (for 3 months) + 551 (installation) = Rs. 2138. I got it because there's no other ISP that provides unlimited schemes for Rs. 551 or lower in my area. It has superb uptime and gives speeds like 72-77kbps on my 64kbps connection. As the initial subscription was for 3 months, I paid Rs. 551 as installation charges. Hoping to see new offers in 3 months like 128kbps or so for the same price.

SMS cost is low

Tata Broadband has a package called the Plan-915 under which you get 512Kbps for Rs. 915 + 10.2%…and the whooper is that there is no limit on the bandwidth…i have been using the same for almost 1 and a half years now…i had initially taken the connection throught my LCO(Local Cable Operator)…but the damp squid is that Tata VSNL(as it is known now) has plans to cancel all connections of the Plan-915 as the plan is not available to new subscribers… The question i have is…when Tata VSNL was able to provide 512Kbps Unlimited at Rs. 1020 per month…why does it charge Rs. 1600 for 256Kbps unlimited now??? i thought prices for internet services were on a downtrend…and the best part is they no longer have a 512Kbps unlimited package at all…all they have is download caps…rude customer care….and dwindling customer base…

Non Stop Mobile Scheme

Hi, This is kamal bandopadhyay.I stay in bangalore.I heard about Non Stop Mobile Scheme.I heard this from my colleage,just let me know if I'am right on this no :-9945111926.
I can buy 2 Tata Indicom Cell Phones 1 prepaid and 1 postpaid in Bangalore.I can send the post paid connection to chandigarh to one of my frnd lets say "A" and keep the prepaid with him.Now according to your scheme local TATA-TATA is free and Roaming incoming calls are also free.Hence If I call my frnd "A",which is a postpaid connection taken from bangalore from my prepaid connection taken in bangalore,then I'd not be charge a single penny as TATA-TATA local is free.At the same time my frnd "A" would not be charged a single penny for receiving my calls from bangalore to chandigarh as ROAMING charges are also free.

PLZ let me know the details of this scheme.And call me at : 09945111926 ,if possible.I need 2 buy two Tata Indicom Cell phones If I'am right about your scheme.

Tata Broadband connection

After a long fight(few months) with TataBroadBand Connection,
I was thinking to move to AirtelBroadBand, thanks for you Comments.

But your problems with speed is not atall a problem before TATA BROADBAND Service.
TataBroadband is shit.Most of the time I wont be having connection.every 1 or two days
I loose connection,I need to call those customer care, who knows silver bullet solution,
RESTART THE COMPUTER AND ROUTER.If you say I already did it before calling you, they ask
you to do it again now, and their 56600121 is not a toll free number, your phone bills
will be more than your broadband bills.Atleast once my phone call went for 60 rupees.
Tata customer service people even put down the phone in the middle of conversation,
great respect for customer(that too I never ever used a single bad word).
This happened for more than 5 months.

The worst part, for a period of 30+ days(minimum 30 days) I didnt had net connection.
(That was from dec 21st 2005 to Jan 17th 2006 except for one day Dec 27th).
So for a period of one month I dont have internet, and they are asking me to pay for that
period.And the only reason I didnt switched so far is I paid a non refundable amount for getting the
connection.now I am even ready to loose that and go for someone else

I am planing to start a blog on nightmares with Tata Broadband connection.

I have been facing frequent problems and despite my complaints, tataindicom broadband services is not waking up.

Before I state the complaints please understand we are not a novice! we know our onions well and know networking inside out (ask your engineers who visit us) - we know how to clean up cookies, delete temp files, restart computer so that your services may function ( But we still cant understand why we need to do that at all ???)

1) The connection breaks frequently, we are using this connection in our office sharing it over a proxy, the connection node is at our common server, if there is no activity on that server ( and why should there be any activity on the server?) The session times out in 600 seconds.

Why should it timeout for an unlimited connection??? We want uninterrupted service that we were used to getting from mtnl dial up unlimited - once we logged in the morning - we would only log out in the night. Period.

2) You obviously did not take tabbed browsing into consideration when you designed this service, most browser - firefox, opera, even IE7(to be released), deepnet use tabbed browsing. If we open a tabbed browser without logging in Your broaband page takes over every tabbed page with no "back", imagine losing 30 pages to your broadband page. If you are promoting IE then forgot it, it is the most backdoor ridden, trojan holed browser available today . Please get your act together on this and forget the pop up page, we have anyway barred all pop ups.

3) Your service keeps on wanting us to "pay" - renew your account is what we have seen twice in last 15 days for a full day at stretch - more so when our account will expire in April 06. and on top of that there is no reimbursement for the day lost for your mistake (Read your billing section mistake)

4) Your service sleeps off, for 5 minutes at a stretch, frequently during the day, then appears magically, we dont know where it goes off to - sleeping may be.

Now I am going to send this email but I will first check through IE whether the connection is still there, then pray that this email goes.

(when I checked in IE your service was not there , see how good I have become at this game)

i want to buy a tata phone but i want to know the scheme of ur 2 yearsi want to know that if i am recharge my phone once, can i make outgoing calls for 2 years or not ? i want to know the connectivity of tata in local area of Uttranchal like ( Hardwar & Roorkee ) please reply of my query at the earliest and one more thing that i know specially what will happen after two years when this limit of two years goes to end. can i renew this scheme or not ? Is it free tata to tata on any type of tata service ?
