They have the worst engineers

Tata Indicom broaband is bull shit. They have the worst engineers. I got a problem with my net connection and the engineer is unable to correct it and all the time he says that the problem is corrected. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM TATA INDICOM BROADBAND.
Please spread this word. Tata Indicom Broadband, please dont deceive us. I disconnected it last month.

Poor service from Tata is legendary.

Poor service from Tata is legendary. I’ve said this before many times. Few are willing to touch Tata even with a bargepole these days where I live. The poor customer service experience extends across their Indicom brand products like mobiles and WLL Fixed line phones. Why should it be surprising?

It is simply a very pathetic state of affairs.

I stay in Bangalore. I tried to get an Airtel connection. After going to their office four times and calling up their call center 2-3 times I finally managed to get out of them acceptance to install the connection at my place. The person comes get the form filled up and asks for payment. I told him as soon as the installation is done I will pay. The installation happens after 18 days after being asked for money. I decided not to hassle myself further and asked not to install the connection.
The funny part was that after I said no I got 5 calls from various Airtel execs asking for reasons I decided not to get the connection.
It is simply a very pathetic state of affairs.

Its best to say `tata’ (goodbye) to `TATA’

Its best to say `tata’ (goodbye) to `TATA’. When they had taken over the broadband segment of `Dishnet DSL’ I had lots of pleasant dreams. At that time there were no other broadband suppliers in Kolkata.
I applied for the same and was promised connection in 5 days (they had told me specifically that I should not expect speeds above 400kbps.. for a 512kbps connection. Well they did give me the connection in 7 days.
Once BSNL came into the scene, I told the guys at TATA Indicomm to change their plans otherwise there was no need for me to stick with them (I’d like to point out that I have been using the dial up connection of VSNL since its inception on the 15th of August 1995). That made no difference to them.. hence I told them to keep the line on hold for a few months.
I have not been billed since then.. on a number of occasions their field engineer had rung me up and requested me to surrender the modem. I have told them to pay be back the deposit (via cash, since they had taken the same via cash too) and take back their equipment.
Nothing has materialised so far.. and as I said before, It’s high time I bid `tata’ to `TATA’

Here is an experience which an infosys employee had with TATA INDICOM BROADBAND

Here is an experience which an infosys employee had with TATA INDICOM BROADBAND. This has been published on their Discussion Board. Rest assured, now, none of the infy chaps will opt for tata indicom …
“On 20th Feb, I got my Pre-Paid connection booked with one of their agents Atul Jain and at that time I was told that my connection would be in place in 8-10 working days. Till now I have not been able to find out what the status of my application is. Everyday, since the 3rd of March, I have been calling their Asst. Manager Virren Shetty(and later Manager Hemant) but to no avail. Every time I call up I am told that my work would be done immediately on priority basis. Now these guys have stopped taking my calls only. Frustrated with nothing happening, I called this Atul Jain up and told him to cancel my application and return my money. This was day before yesterday. And I was told that I’ll get my money by 22nd,ie yesterday. Now I have not got my money back. The application has been officially cancelled. And I feel helpless.
I have been unduly harassed by these guys and I don’t want anyone else to face the same. ”
This implies one thing for sure..TATA’s may have taken over VSNL..but VSNL employees will remain just that..VSNL employees.

only GOD can HELP U with the tata customer care!!!

hmmm.. the value added services maybe nice, but why pay for things u could get free!! but i guess this is a nice “legal” way for the goodies..
Tata, from my experience, suck! really, they have the most frequent disconnection of any broadband service, and the problem never seems to go away unless threatened with disconnection. And once the “magic” word is spoken, u r greeted with an awesome broadband service and u never, i really mean NEVER need to call them ever.. but u got to keep praying that lightning does not stike ur line or somehow ur line is not shreded by some force of nature, cuz once it does.. only GOD can HELP U with the tata customer care!!!

Tata Indicom(VSNL) is one of the worst ISPs in India.

Tata Indicom(VSNL) is one of the worst ISPs in India. The customer service is beyond apallable. They have a 24hour customer service just for namesake but nothing ever gets done.
I have a 512kbps connection from VSNL which has a limit of 1 GB. For the past 2 months I have faced abnormal usage on my account. The usage occured EVEN THOUGH MY MODEM WAS SWITCHED OFF !
After innumerable complaints, the matter is still not fixed. Morever, they have charged me more than Rs. 3000 for 2 months, even though I have used far less than the 1 GB limit.
I think there is a serious security problem with router connections. I found this out recently. VSNL calculates your bandwidth used by your IP Address. They DO NOT verify your username or password when you connect to the Internet. Therefore, it is as simple as changing your router’s public IP Address to someone else’s, and voila it works.
The technical competence of the VSNL staff is really abysmal and I would warn all existing customers to be aware of this issue. Anyone could use your account without having to do much.

services that we are getting is very bad

We are using Tata indicom broadbrand services and the user-id is comnrdip@eth.net. I am sorry to inform u that the services that we are getting is very bad

harrassed customers of Tata Indicom BroadBand.

I am one more of the harrassed customers of Tata Indicom BroadBand.
I am so frustrated that I want to go to the consumer Forum against this company. I have started collecting the details. But It would be much more effective if all of us filed a case collectively.
If you are willing to support me, please mail me at technokiran@yahoo.com
We should not let a company to plunder our money without giving us any satisfoactory service.

Tata Indicom's broadband connection

Please don't go for the Tata Indicom's broadband connection , coz the
only they even don't have technical guys they have hired only guys to
collect the money coz in bangalore there are agents of Indicom who
only collects the service chare and installation charge and then they
forget the customer who paid them for that , and even they have very
good patch up with the Tata Indicoms call centers. So if someone
calls there for status they will give pointless reasons and make
false commitments . Even i had paid three weeks before and had words
to get connection in 7 working days, but its more than 3 weeks and
after calling the Indicom's executive cell, when i complain that i
haven't got any connection yet, they used to laugh or put the
receiver on the table.so its my request to all them who are planning
to go for this..please try some other provider.

CHEATED BY TATA INDICOM

After rigorous persuasion by the marketing executives of tata indicom
I paid for and got myself a pre-paid broadband connection which was
Activated on 06.02.06. I was happy but my happiness vanished within
Two days when on 08.02.06 the connection dropped. I have been
Complaining repeatedly on their helpline no. 55500121 and also
Through various e-mails but so far neither has it been restored not
Has anyone turned up to look into it. But for the false promises
That the helpline techies have to offer that the problem would be
Solved within 24 hours,it is surprising how stubborn a telecom
Company can be,totally insensitive to the problem and simply
Pocketing our money. Its simply criminal. I wonder when would i be
Able to find any official from the company physically in front of me
So that i may break his head.

Tata Indicom Broadband

I recently got my Tata Indicom connection disconnected due to the heavy handed behaviour of the company towards its customers. The dont even find it fit to callup a customer even once before disconnecting a line, ostensibly for non-payment of bills!!

Their grace period is 1 day, or atleast thats what they had in my case. I have written a detailed rant at my blog: http://periphany.blogspot.com. Copying it here.

Two months back, I paid Rs 2000 to Tata Indicom Broadband as an installation fee for a 64kbps always-on connection. This included the modem and in-house wiring. The plan fee then was Rs 800 per month before taxes.

They took ten days to actually do the installation, which would have been not so bad had they not promised that the installation would happen within two days.

Once the connection was up and running, I was more or less satisfied with the connection. It did have a tendency to do down for a few hours once every 4-5 days, but thats not too bad by Indian IT industry standards. The good thing was that they actually gave me a static live IP (most providers in India only give a 192.168.*.* IP, or best case, a live IP with DHCP). Also, I was getting download averages of between 70-75kbps over large downloads, while I had been really expecting averages of less than 32kbps (heavily overselling bandwidth is widespread practice here, even for DSL connections).

I did have a few minor gripes at that point, but no deal-breakers:

1. They only provided an electonic statement. While in the US this is what I would have prefered, here a paper copy is essential. They actually had the nerve to ask for an additional Rs 50 per copy for providing paper billing.

2. This bill would only be sent by email to the email account (with 10MB email space!) they had provided me with the internet connection. There was no way to have this bill sent to my main email address.

3. Even though they insisted on going the electronic way for their bill, they had no mechanism for electronic payment. The payment had to be made by cheques being dropped off at specified drop boxes in the city.

4. Even though they had done a credit check and a deposit had been collected for what is called a "post-paid" connection, they bill in advance. So you need to pay the entire due amount for the month of November by the 31st of October.

As I said, inconvenient, but not deal-breakers.

And then, I decided to go on a 10-day vacation. Before leaving, I called up their customer service and told them I was not gonna be in town for 10-days. As the bill had not yet arrived for the coming month, the rep told me that it wont be a problem, and I can pay it once I get back.

I come back from Vacation, and I find my connection down. Too tired at this stage to call customer service, and accustomed till now to the periodic outages, I dont think anything is amiss until I wake up the next morning to find the connection still down. I fire up my emergency dialup connection (a great post-paid "pay as you go" dial-up scheme provided by the state-owned telecom major, BSNL, where the internet charges are billed to your telephone line, and the authentication is done via Calling Line Identification or Caller-ID). I try to login to my Tata Indicom Broadband email account to check if theres a bill pending, and get my first surprise: I cant login. The login page just reloads when I click login, without even informing me that my account is disabled.

I then call customer service, where I am curtly informed that the line has been disconnected for no payment of bill. A bill I havent seen, and now cannot see, thanks to the account being disabled. Turns out that the Bill due date is 3 days from the bill date, and theres a grace period of 1 (let me spell it out for you: O-N-E) day! After which they automatically disconnect your line and charge you Rs 250 for reconnections. All this, after charging Rs 2000 as installation charges. All this, without a single warning call from Tata Indicom (As my contact number with them is my cell number they could easily have called me up even while I was on vacation).

This really pissed me off. So I lodge a formal complaint with the rep and tell her to permanently disable my account, for which her response was "OK". I hang up.

A week after this, I finally get a call from customer service. This guy is totally unaware of any complaints that I may have registered. He informs me, finally (two weeks after the fact), that my line has been disabled due to non-payment of bill, and If i pay the bill and reconnection fee of Rs 250, they can enable it within 48 hours! (This for a company which doesnt even take minutes to disconnect a paying customer).

Oh. Meanwhile, Tata Indicom Broadband, under competitive pressure, reduced its rates for the connection I have by about a third! But only for new customers! The old customers already have paid the huge installation fee, so they are not gonna go anywhere else, and so dont deserve to be treated at par with the new potential suckers.

To cut an already long story short, I went with another provider (Airtel Broadband), which is (till now) working out well. They did the Installation for free, gave me a better rate, and it took them less than 24 hours since my first call to their sales number to get my line up and running. They also accept electronic payments, and provide paper statements. Their ordering process also seems very secure (some banks, like HSBC, should probably take a few lessons from them).

I recommend staying away from Tata Indicom broadband. They have higher prices and worse service than any of the competitors. Heck, the kind of treatment I got from them is worse than what the state-owned BSNL provides.

Another disappointed Tata Indicom customer here.

Another disappointed Tata Indicom customer here. The inefficiency and tardiness displayed by them during the installation process was horrendous. I guess I was a bit lucky in that my installation charge was only 800 or so rupees: one of the reasons I chose them in the first place.

Since then their service has been tolerable but only barely. Overall I am hoping that Airtel which is expanding services in Bombay will reach my area in the next few months. Until then I am thinking of sticking with TI though I may change my mind if their service deteriorates further.

not to go for TATA BROADBAND CONNECTION

I am having Tata Broadband connection, I am from BTM, Bangalore.

I have horrible expereince with Tata Broadband.

I didnt have connection for a period of 35 days. And I got bill for that month.
So even if I dont have internet connection for complete month I still have to pay for that period.
I am still fighting them.I paid some(~2k)initial non-refundable amount, that was a trap.
Even if you dont have net connection, they will tell you that you downloaded 60 mb, 30mb, maybe some GHOSTS sitting there downloading on my IP address.

Customer care is not helpfull, they give you stupid sugestions. they put you on hold for long periods, so you get a costly phone bills, just now I paid 84 Rupees for a phone call to customer care.

If you going for TataBB you be ready get strange problems Modem problems, theif's stolen Broadband Wire, IP conflicts, forcible donation to make Tata rich.

I suggest not to go for TATA BROADBAND CONNECTION.

Kishore.

A dissatisfied TATA indicom customer here too

Hi,

A dissatisfied TATA indicom customer here too... I belong to chennai and here too the TATA asusual, sucks !!!!

I am now going for Airtel..

I got a Laptop and it all started from there.. My laptop deosnot have a serial port and TATA WLL ( wireless Landline) which uses a LG phone works with serial port only.. I had to shell out Rs. 1000 to buy a BAFO USB to serial port converter and it still doesnot work...

I asked TATA cust care if they could change the Phone to other model which uses a USB port for the net connection .. And u know they asked me to pay Rs. 1000 as
non-refundable deposit for this....

The crazy thing is, If i disconnect the TATA Phone and again take a new connection from TATA itself, I got to pay less than this amount !!!! The unique marketing strategy that only TATA follows.. I never understand the logic...

And u know, when u call the Cust care people, Each one will give u a different answer for the same question....

TATA doesnot warn customers if they see any oppurtunity of getting this so called free money in the form of reonnection fee/ non refundable deposits etc...
